Fueled by jaw-dropping passes, powerful bump-drafts and blazing corner speeds, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour offers some of the most electrifying racing of the weekend whenever it comes to New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Today, speedway officials topped off the tank, adding Sunoco as the entitlement sponsor for the Sunoco 100 on Saturday, July 12.
As part of the agreement, victory lane at the Magic Mile has been officially renamed: Sunoco Victory Lane.
"Sunoco literally fuels our sport, from NASCAR Sprint Cup vehicles all the way down to the Whelen Modified cars here at New Hampshire Motor Speedway," said Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and general manager of NHMS. "It's fitting that the company that propels these cars to victory lane should be recognized for its role in the race. We're proud to add the Sunoco label to our Victory Lane and race entitlement. It reflects the successes we all have together in racing."
The Sunoco 100 will feature some of the biggest names in the sport, including defending division champion Ryan Preece, defending race champion Doug Coby and five-time NHMS Modified winner Ted Christopher. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Ryan Newman is also expected to run, as well as a number of drivers from the Whelen Southern Modified Tour.
Involved in motorsports for five decades, Sunoco has been the Official Fuel of NASCAR since 2004, fueling 18 million miles of NASCAR racing - enough to circle the earth more than 700 times. Sunoco supports all three of NASCAR's national touring divisions - Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck - as well as the K&N Pro Series East and Whelen Modified Tour.
"We're proud to strengthen our relationship with the New Hampshire Motor Speedway and the surrounding community through sponsorship of the Sunoco 100 and additional branding at the facility, including Sunoco Victory Lane," said Drew Kabakoff, brand manager for Sunoco. "We're delighted to expand our presence in the New England region by connecting the Sunoco brand with one of the most exciting events on the Whelen Modified Tour schedule."
This season also marks the 10th anniversary of Sunoco's Free Fuel 5,000 annual summer promotion, which is celebrating a decade of free fuel to consumers. The Free Fuel 5,000 will give 10 grand prize winners $5,000 in Sunoco fuel. Contestants may enter by putting the Sunoco decal on their vehicles; if spotted they will receive a prize on the spot and be entered to win a grand prize. Spotters will be looking for winners throughout the months of July and August at more than 5,000 locations across the United States.
The Sunoco 100 will drop the green flag at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, and will air on Fox Sports 1 on Friday, July 18 at noon. The Sunoco 100 will be preceded by NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour qualifying for the Sunoco 100 at 8:00 a.m.; NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying for the Sta-Green 200 at 10:05 a.m.; and followed by the running of the Sta-Green 200 at 3:30 p.m.
