In 2018, Kevin Harvick hit the jackpot, taking his sixth 2018 win in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway after an intense battle with Kyle Busch for the lead in the final laps to cross the finish line first.

Harvick had already conquered the one-mile zipline at Foxwoods Resort Casino in May to announce the multi-year partnership between the speedway and Foxwoods Resort Casino, and now, the majestic Rainmaker trophy is his, along with 19-pound Loudon the Lobster, after he conquered “The Magic Mile” for his third Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series win at NHMS.

With seven laps to go, Harvick got to the back bumper and pushed Kyle Busch out of the way. Harvick was all over Busch, tapping him multiple times, sending him out of the racing groove into Turn 2 to take the lead for good.

“We were just running out of laps, and I knew I might not get to him again,” said Harvick. “As hard as both of us were pushing, I got to him, and I knew I needed to take my opportunity. I felt like I needed to get him up out of the groove, and I got him up out of the groove and was able to get by.”

Busch didn’t feel like he had the best car in the race, even though he certainly knows how to get to Victory Lane at NHMS. The 2015 NASCAR champion is the all-time leader in NASCAR national series wins at NHMS including a trip to Victory Lane in last September’s race.

“I knew our car wasn't going to be good enough,” said Busch. “Those SHR cars were all fast today, and we just didn't have what we needed there, so I was just backing up, and Harvick was using me up there for about four or five corners in a row, which is fine. I think he could have made the move work cleaner than that, but you know, it’s all fair game when you are racing. How you race is how you get raced.”

Harvick qualified 14th, made up seven spots by the end of Stage 1 and was up to fourth by the end of Stage 2. He led three times for a total of 12 laps, including the most important lap – the final one that earned him a spot in Victory Lane.

“I want to thank all the fans for sticking it out in the rain today,” said Harvick. “What a great race today. Thanks everybody from Foxwoods and New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Appreciate it! Awesome day!”

ROXOR 200

The NASCAR Xfinity Series will race in the ROXOR 200 on Saturday, July 20 at 4:00 p.m. with qualifying on the same day at 11:05 a.m.

Last year, Christopher Bell’s first NASCAR Xfinity Series appearance at New Hampshire Motor Speedway ended with a win, giving him his second consecutive NASCAR Xfinity Series victory after the previous week’s trip to Victory Lane in Kentucky.

Bell’s win broke a streak of six consecutive pole winners winning the Lakes Region 200. Brad Keselowski’s 2011 win was the last time the pole winner was not the winner of the race. Keselowski was the only driver in the field who had previously won in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Despite being the pole winner, Keselowski missed the mandatory Driver and Crew Chief Meeting and was forced to start at the back of the pack.

Bell’s back-to-back wins didn’t come easy as the NASCAR Xfinity Series rookie experienced technical problems midway through the race. His tachometer failed, but it didn’t prove to be a challenge for the driver getting on and off pit road over the final stops of the race.

“I was getting really nervous, because I didn't have a tach, so I didn't know how I was going to get down pit road,” said Bell. “Luckily, I got the best spotter on the roof, and Tony [Hirschman] was able to guide me and let me know 'I think you can pick it up a little bit,' and, a couple of times, told me to slow it down. It worked out for us we were able to take four tires there. That was a big deal.”

Bell, a NASCAR Xfinity Series regular won stage one, but was off pit cycle and ended up in eighth after getting mired in the middle of the pack, which allowed Keselowski to take the win in stage two. Bell led the field for a total of 93 laps, and after 13 lead changes, he led for the final time on lap 182.

“That's pretty special,” replied Bell when asked about beating Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski in back-to-back weeks. "I never dreamed I'd be here at Joe Gibbs Racing competing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. I'm proud of this entire group at Joe Gibbs Racing and the No. 20 team. They work their butts off.”

Keselowski and Ryan Preece finished second and third respectively.

“Once Brad got going, I thought I had a better car than him, and I thought I had a better car than Christopher Bell,” said Preece. “I knew Brad had two tires; I was racing him for all I had, trying to get in front him, chase down my teammate and win here in New England, but at the end of the day, it wasn’t enough to be with those guys.”

Eastern Propane & Oil 100

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Eastern Propane & Oil 100 is on Saturday, July 20 at 1:45 p.m. with qualifying on the same day at 9:00 a.m.

Last year, the Eastern Propane & Oil 100 turned into a quarter-mile drag race between Bobby Santos III and Chase Dowling as the pair headed for the granite stripe on the final lap of the race. Santos edged out Dowling by .014 seconds for his fourth NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Santos made up seven spots over the final 21 laps to earn the victory. He made up two spots on lap 80 as he moved into fifth from seventh. Following the red flag on lap 86, Santos moved up to fourth and started fighting for the lead.

Over the final four laps, he challenged Dowling, Justin Bonsignore and Ryan Newman as the four drivers exchanged the lead more than half a dozen times, setting up the intense final lap dash for the checkered flag.

"We were just running our race,” said Santos. “They are hundred lap races, so the guys gave me a great race car and put us in position when it mattered. This is really cool. I've got great people behind me. I'm very happy."

Dowling, Newman and Bonsignore, who finished second, third and fourth respectively, couldn’t hold off Santos as the trio ran in the top three for the majority of the race.

“I was in the catbird seat,” explained Newman as he was trying to find a path to the front on the final lap. “Nobody turned left or right hard enough. If you didn’t enjoy that race, you need to find another hobby.”

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East United Site Services 70 takes on “The Magic Mile” on Saturday, July 20 at approximately 6:45 p.m. with qualifying on Friday, July 19 at 7:05 p.m.

Last year, Tyler Ankrum dominated the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East United Site Services 70 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for his third win of the season.

Ankrum started on the outside pole, took the lead on the opening lap and never looked back.

"I'm not really too sure, honestly," said Ankrum when asked about what went into his dominating performance. "I guess it just kind of happened. The guys gave me a really fast race car."

NASCAR rising star Harrison Burton tried to chase down Ankrum throughout the race. Burton used lapped traffic to pull within a second of the leader with less than a dozen laps to go, but could get no closer. Once Ankrum got through the traffic, he pulled away and earned the win by a margin of 2.387 seconds over the son of former NASCAR driver and current NBC analyst Jeff Burton.

"The race went green all 70 laps,” said Ankrum, who earned his first career victory at “The Magic Mile.” “We had a lot of time by ourselves out there trying to find that fast line. [Harrison] Burton certainly put the pressure on. He raced me really hard and really clean, so hats off to him.”

Anthony Alfredo raced to a third place finish while Tyler Dippel finished fourth. Pole sitter Derek Kraus fell back early but ended the evening with a solid fifth place finish.

“It really helps a lot with points, extending that points lead,” said Ankrum. “So we really don't have to worry about it once we get to Dover. That's the biggest thing that does for us.”

All Star Shootout

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour All Star Shootout gets the on-track action started on Friday, July 19 at 2:10 p.m. It’s a timed 30-minute event.

Last year, he may have come into the race trying to preserve his race car for Saturday’s 100-lap main event, but Justin Bonsignore left no doubt how badly he wanted to win the 2018 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour All Star Shootout at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The driver of the No. 51 Phoenix Communications dove to the bottom of turn four on the final lap to make sure challenger Doug Coby couldn’t steal the victory.

“I did what you do here on the last lap... I blocked the bottom of turn four as best I could,” explained Bonsignore after celebrating in Victory Lane with his race crew. “I’ll take it.”

Bonsignore narrowly edged the No. 2 car of Doug Coby, who spent the second half of the race trying to find a line that would take him past the race leader. Coby and Rowan Pennink battled fiercely for second place before the two cars bumped in the final lap, sending Pennink’s No. 3 car into the outside wall.

Eric Goodale took third place, Jon McKennedy finished fourth, Bobby Santos was fifth, followed by Ryan Preece, Andy Seiss, Ryan Newman, Woody Pitkat and Matt Swanson rounding out the top-10 finishers.

The All Star Shootout featured a 35-lap run in a 30-minute timeframe, with a mandatory pit stop at lap 20. The top-five leaders were inverted before the second half restart. Bonsignore started the race 12th and had to weave his way through the field to win the race. There were three cautions thrown during the race.

“The early restarts worked in our favor,” explained Bonsignore.  “I could tell the car was working pretty well early.  I also learned about how it reacts in traffic.”

The winner admitted he was trying to preserve and protect his race car during Friday’s race, but felt the entire field of drivers seemed aggressive from the opening lap.

This is the second straight Whelen Modified event victory for Bonsignore this month and his second win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Bonsignore won the F.W. Webb 100 on September 24, 2016.

Qualifying for Sunday's Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 starts at 4:35 p.m.

Last year, Kurt Busch turned the first lap in the final session of qualifying and watched as nobody was able to post a faster lap in the five-minute-session to capture his first pole position at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. At a track where his brother Kyle Busch has dominated on qualifying day, 2018's pole belonged to Kurt, who stood with the Cape Cod Café Pizza Pole Award.

"I like the way we made the right changes through each of the rounds and we stuck to a game plan," said Kurt. "That's exactly what you hope to happen each time you go to qualifying where you don't have to deviate away from the plan you set in place."

Kurt turned his best lap of the session’s final round with a speed of 133.591 mph for the pole. He was fourth fastest in the first round as he posted a lap of 132.817, and then was sixth in the second round with a 133.221 lap to advance to the final round.

The final results set up a great Sunday duel between the Busch brothers. Kyle steered his No. 18 M&Ms Toyota to the fastest overall lap of 133.656 mph, which was tops in the second qualifying round. Add to the drama that Martin Truex Jr. qualified second after capturing the 2017 pole at NHMS, and you had a trio of titans ready to lead the field for the 2018 Foxwoods Resort Casino 301.

In celebrating his first New Hampshire pole award, Kurt praised the addition of traction compound to the turns of "The Magic Mile." He predicted the extra stick would mean even more competitive racing on Sunday. "It will help big time," explained Kurt. "When your car is working good you can pass with the VHT in lane one and lane three; it changes the game."

This was the third pole victory of 2018 for the driver of the No. 41 Monster Energy Ford, but he was still searching for his first trip to victory lane for the 2018 season. He was confident this was a step towards that goal. "It’s great to be on pole," said Kurt. "It’s exactly what we needed to start that second half vibe going on."

New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s newest racing surface, The Flat Track, will host the first ever race under the lights on Friday, July 19. Friday Night Dirt Duels presented by New England Racing Fuel will be headlined by the U.S. Legend Cars International and the USAC Dirt Midget Association and feature a night of short track racing with NASCAR stars on the 0.25-mile dirt track during the Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 weekend.

“We’re always looking for ways we can improve the fan experience and add new features to our race weekend to give fans more opportunities to see the drivers and enjoy racing,” said David McGrath, executive vice president and general manager for New Hampshire Motor Speedway. “The Friday Night Dirt Duels will be a low cost, high energy event with some fan-favorite drivers racing in a short track setting. This is going to be a great show for New England race fans.”

Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers Corey LaJoie and Daniel Hemric will race in the 35-lap U.S. Legend Cars International feature event with fellow Cup Series driver Ryan Blaney serving as Grand Marshal. The winner will take home $2,000, which is the largest legends purse in the Northeast this season. LaJoie, Hemric and Blaney will be in town for the Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 on Sunday, July 21 on the 1.058-mile speedway.

“It’s been forever since I drove a legend car and I’ve never raced anything on dirt,” said LaJoie. “I’m sure I’ll figure out the new flat track at NHMS pretty quick and put on a good show with Hemric.”

The 30-lap USAC Dirt Midget Association race marks their first appearance at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our teams to be racing at such an iconic venue such as New Hampshire Motor Speedway,” said Mark Hann, series director for USAC Dirt Midget Association. “The fans will be seeing a historic event since this will be the first time that a USAC and NASCAR race takes place on the same weekend at the same facility in New England.”

Heat races start at 7:30 p.m. with gates opening and practice starting at 6:00 p.m. Tickets, which include open garage and pit access, are $10 for adults with kids 12 and under free. This is a typical dirt track setting with standing room style viewing and fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating. While coolers are not allowed at The Flat Track, $3 draft beer or hot dogs will be available while supplies last as part of the speedway’s fans first pricing.

This event will replace the Fan Jam, which was previously held in the speedway’s infield.

The Flat Track, located directly behind the North East Motor Sports Museum, is the first track to be built in New England in the last 25 years. Crews turned roughly 186,095 square feet of ground and 3,000 tons of clay to build the 0.25-mile track. Construction began last fall, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on June 6, 2019. Motorcycles will be the first to race on the new surface on June 15 when American Flat Track, “America’s Original Extreme Sport,” takes over the venue during Laconia Motorcycle Week.
