Quadruple Feature at NHMS
Today at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, fans will be treated to a site never before seen in Loudon. Four series, four styles of driving, the IZOD IndyCar Series, Firestone Indy Lights, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the American-Canadian Tour. All together!
For the first time in track history, these series will all take turns on “The Magic Mile” in the same day. Danica Patrick and her fellow INDYCAR drivers will get in one more day of practice before the field lines up for the MoveThatBlock.com INDY 225 Sunday afternoon.
“It’s pretty fast, it’s picking up grip,” Patrick told reporters after her inaugural practice laps on Thursday. “I think it’ll be some good racing.” Patrick said Indy cars won’t have to slow down much going into the turns at NHMS, but they have a tendency to get loose coming out of the turns, which should make the racing fun to watch.
For now, series point’s leader Dario Franchitti has done the most homework. He was fastest around the track with a top speed of 171.099 mph. Franchitti burned around the track in just over 21-seconds. Compare that with the Sprint Cup Series cars that take closer to 28-seconds and it gives you an idea just how fast these cars can go.
The American-Canadian Tour roars trackside at 10:30 a.m. for the first part of their two-race feature. 50-laps of bumper to bumper racing is the perfect encore to Indy’s practice runs.
When the 50-lap sprint is complete, the Indy Lights drivers are anxious to say hello. All of the drivers will be available for an autograph session for fans. Indy Lights are here for the first time in 13 years, offering a great opportunity to see the open-wheeled stars of tomorrow making their debut in New England.
With the new, also come the wildly popular NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour cars. The “mod squad” will greet fans on the Broadway Midway before going green Saturday afternoon. After the dust settles on the Whelen Modified Tour, fans can meet their favorite INDYCAR driver. All 27 IZOD stars will be on hand for an autograph session with fans.
Before the ink dries, we go back to action on the track and finish Saturday with a flourish. One final sprint to the finish for ACT. Twenty-five laps will decide which American-Canadian Tour driver will capture the flag and earn serious bragging rights.
Four series. Two races. A full day of fun at NHMS. See you trackside.
