Mike Stefanik scored a record 71st NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory, by capturing the Granite State Classic checkered flag at New Hampshire Motor Speedway today.

The driver of the No. 16 Diversified Metals/R.B. Enterprises Pontiac has six “Magic Mile” wins, 22 top-fives and 28 top-10 finishes in the mighty Whelen Modified Tour.

“Who says you are old when you are 53? This feels great,” said Stefanik. “We had a great race car. There were a lot of great race cars out there, but ours just came out on top. It's a team win, we worked on this car trying to dial this thing in. It was fantastic, I can't say enough about this car and this team.”

Woody Pitkat bump-drafted to a close second place finish, behind the wheel of his No. 28 Ramar-Hall Chevrolet. This was the Stafford, Conn., native’s best NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour finish in 51 career starts.

“I have never been up there this late in the race. It is a whole other ball game with pushing and passing,” said Pitkat. “At the end of it I was trying to save it and just be there. It was just an awesome day.”

July’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour winner Todd Szegedy finished third behind Pitkat.

“The whole day we fought a pretty looser race car,” said Szegedy. “I definitely had a better car than Mike, but the restarts I wasn't any good. When I went to make a move I got bump drafted and nailed him and almost sent him into the fence. I didn't think it was over when I crossed the line, and we almost got caught up in turn one.  We had a lot of opportunity for it to be a bad day and we made good out of it. It was a good points day.”

The racing action continues tomorrow during the MoveThatBlock.com INDY 225 for the IZOD IndyCar Series and the Firestone Indy Lights 100 for the Firestone Indy Lights Series. Tickets can be purchased by calling the NHMS ticket hotline or by visiting www.nhms.com.
