The IZOD IndyCar Series stars may not race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway until Aug. 14, but if you were out and about in the Granite State the past two days, you may have seen one in your neighborhood.

As part of a promotion counting down the days until INDYCAR returns to “The Magic Mile,” local media members had the exciting opportunity to ride shotgun in a two-seat street legal Indy car. They raced through several locations in New Hampshire and even Massachusetts.

Lauren Collins, a reporter from NECN took her ride around a parking lot in Manchester.

“I was really surprised at how smooth the ride was,” she said. “It has those great big tires and its all open air. I was really expecting to get jostled around a lot but I didn’t. It was a rush and it’s nice that it is so loud.”

Another reporter who got the opportunity to experience INDYCAR first hand was Allen Lessels of the Manchester Union Leader. Lessels started his ride at the Steeplegate Mall in Concord, N.H., and at one point passed the N.H. State Police building.

“It was pretty fun for about 10 or 15 minutes,” said Lessels. “I’m not sure I would like it for a couple of hours. Then again they didn’t call me in to get a seat shaped to my body. I could have used a customized seat.”

INDYCAR will bring speeds of up to 200 mph back to New England on Aug. 14 for the INDY 225.
