24 Hours of Lemons: Halloween Hooptiefest
In May, it was Loudon Annoying. This weekend, it will be Halloween Hooptiefest. Yes, the 24 Hours of Lemons is back, once again invading New Hampshire Motor Speedway with all its zany, hilariously crazy cars.
The door-to-door, bumper-to-bumper endurance races, featuring cars that were purchased, fixed and track-prepped for a total cost $500 or less, return to the Magic Mile from Oct. 25-27. The 24 Hours of Lemons features over 10,000 participants spread across dozens of races at tracks across the country.
The 24 Hours of Lemons is restricted to cars that were purchased, fixed up and track-prepped for a total of $500 or less. Racing consists of tech inspection and track testing on Friday, endurance-race sessions on Saturday and Sunday, with only breaks for eating, sleeping and patch-work on the car every night.
The race schedule includes:
Friday, Oct. 25
7 a.m. - Gates open
9 a.m. - 5 p.m. - NHMS-organized track testing. Contact NHMS directly for details.
12-5 p.m. - Mandatory technical inspection. Every car and at least one driver per team must be present for tech.

In conjunction with the 24 Hours of Lemons will be the second annual Hooptiefest, an unusual country competition that includes pumpkin launching, jack-o-lantern carving, costume contests, and other New England-themed entertainments during the weekend. Hooptiefest is a separate event from the 24 Hours of Lemons, but drivers are encouraged to participate. All participants must register for events separately from the 24 Hours of Lemons.
First-place accolades will be awarded in all contests with the spirit of the competition inspiring each prize. Penalties will be assessed throughout the weekend. Monetary penalties will be donated to the New Hampshire Chapter of the Speedway Children's Charities.
Awards for on-track events will be held during a ceremony on Sunday at 5 p.m.
