Eddie MacDonald Wins Fourth Career ACT Invitational
It wouldn't be an odd-numbered year without Eddie MacDonald finding Sunoco Victory Lane in the Bond Auto Parts ACT Invitational. MacDonald, a native of Rowley, Mass., picked up his fourth win since 2009 in the nightcap of an action-packed trifecta of racing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday.]
"Everyone did such a great job this whole weekend," said MacDonald, who has now won this race in 2009, '11, '13 and '15. "I love coming here and being able to win at NHMS."
Joey Polewarczyk (Hudson, N.H.) and defending Bond Auto Parts ACT Invitational Wayne Helliwell Jr. (Dover, N.H.) finished second and third, respectively, in an epic battle around the Magic Mile.
With MacDonald pulling away, the two traded positions on numerous occasions with Helliwell grabbing the lead heading down the backstretch on the final lap.
"We've had some good battles and the point standings show that," said Helliwell, the American-Canadian Tour regular season points leader. "I thought I might have had him as we went into Turn 4."
But Polewarczyk had other ideas, driving hard into Turn 3 and getting underneath Helliwell through Turn 4. It was a drag race to the finish with Polewarczyk beating Helliwell to the Granite Stripe by inches.
"This was a really great race and a very even race," said Polewarczyk, the 2010 Bond Auto Parts ACT winner. "It was tough to separate yourself from the pack, so you tried to get any edge you could. What a race."
