Sunday Morning: Unpredictable Race On the Moat Mountain Road Course
Sunday's Granite State Legend Car race on the Moat Mountain Road Course was anything but predictable. The first ten laps were caution-free, and this allowed Shaun Buffington, Tom Gray, and Alex Vorrilas to pull away from the field. Things got shaken up, though, when Tom Gray had to pull off due to car troubles with four to go, and then a blown motor ended Vorrilas's day and brought out a red flag with two to go.
Buffington's car took off on the restart, and he took the checkered flag for the second time this weekend. After having bad luck the past two races, Mike Alton held on through the wild restart for a second place finish. Due to a disqualification, Stephen Johnson was credited with third place.
The Granite State Legend cars will be back for another triple-header weekend August 3rd-4th.
Saturday Evening: Gray, Call Repeat on Mini-Oval
After a disqualification, Tom Gray was credited with the win on the Granite State Legends Cars mini-oval. It was his second win on the layout in as many races after his win on July 20. His teammate, Shaun Buffington, finished second.
In one of the more obscure statistics in racing, Taylor Martin earned her sixth consecutive third place finish on the mini-oval in the 2013 season.
Following the legends, Casey Call also won his second consecutive race on the mini-oval by taking the checkered flag in the Gifford's Famous Ice Cream Bandoleros Series. Derek Debbis and Robby Gordon Douglas rounded out the podium.
Saturday Morning: Buffington Wins First Race of Weekend Triple-Header
Saturday's Granite State Legend car feature on the Moat Mountain Road course was a challenging one for all drivers. A caution with five to go, and then a red flag with three to go meant that these cars got very hot.
After having his car destroyed in the previous Moat Mountian race, Shaun Buffington was back in victory lane in a new car. An exhaust problem made Tom Gray's car extra hot, but he was able to hold on for a second place finish. Alex Vorrilas struggled with an oil leak in his car all morning. Starting in the back of the field, he fought his way back up for third place.
This is the first of a triple-header for the Legend cars this weekend. They will race the mini-oval Saturday Afternoon, and the road course again on Sunday morning.
