With above normal snowfall totals having blanketed New England throughout much of February and March, speedway officials are forced to cancel its annual FANtasy Drive Open House scheduled for March 30.
Though the Magic Mile will not host any planned open house activities on March 30, the Speedway Star singing competition will continue as planned – but with a new location at the Mall of New Hampshire. Ticket holders will still have the opportunity to drive their personal vehicles on the racing surface at a later date.
“To prevent frost damage to the racing surface, we don’t allow any plows or snow-clearing vehicles on the track,” said Tom Blanchette, director of operations for NHMS. “Our best snow remover is Mother Nature, and until she starts to warm up, the track remains buried beneath the snow, which also serves as an insulation blanket to protect the surface from frost heaves and other damage.”
The highlight of FANtasy Drive and fan-favorite, laps around the Magic Mile, will be rescheduled for ticket holders to choose one day for their on-track experience later this spring. New Hampshire Motor Speedway has set aside four dates – from 5-7 p.m. on May 3 or June 7 on the 1.6-mile road course, which includes a large portion of the oval and May 31 and June 21 on the 1.058-mile NASCAR oval. Because track time is limited, an RSVP (call 603-783-4931) by April 20 is required to secure a spot.
The Speedway Star singing competition, normally part of the FANtasy Drive lineup, will continue as planned inside the Mall of New Hampshire in Manchester, N.H. on Saturday, March 30 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Fifteen contestants will be competing for two spots to sing in front of thousands of fans at either the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Town Fair Tire 100 on July 13 or the F.W. Webb 100 on Sept. 21.
