Adding an event that features racing with X-Games-type of action and appeal, Speedway Motorsports, Inc. and series officials announced today that the amazing and exciting form of Global RallyCross racing is coming to New Hampshire Motor Speedway on July 14, as part of its July NASCAR weekend.

Featuring a format that’s part time trial, part stunt show and all adrenaline, the series star drivers include Ken Block, Tanner Foust and action sport-NASCAR crossover athletes Travis Pastrana and Brian Deegan.  As part of an effort to broaden the relative new sport’s exposure, New Hampshire Motor Speedway is fortunate to be one of four Speedway Motorsports, Inc. race tracks adding GRC racing to its major event weekend lineup.

“This is a great addition to our LENOX Industrial Tools 301 NASCAR weekend,” says Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and general manager of New Hampshire Motor Speedway. “With motorsports stars like Danica Patrick and Travis Pastrana racing during the day and an X-Games-type entertainment element at night as part of our Saturday lineup brings an outstanding opportunity to broaden our audience, especially that younger demographic.

“Global RallyCross Championship racing brings a very positive and broader appeal to our current NASCAR event template. I spoke to Travis Pastrana in Daytona and he is excited about competing in the New England 200 NASCAR Nationwide race followed by the Global RallyCross that evening.

GRC combines the energy of motorsport with the attitude of action sport, and features production-based, compact cars highly modified for competition to produce more than 600 horsepower. With all-wheel drive, GRC cars can turn on a dime and accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less than two seconds. The race tracks, usually around one mile long, are made up of asphalt and dirt and include a crowd-thrilling, crossover 70-foot gap jump along with tight turns and snap directional changes. Races progress in multi-car heats towards an eight-car main event.

For New Hampshire, the course will utilize area in between turns one and two of the one-mile oval.

“This is a kind of racing that few have seen before, but I’m certain they’ll be hooked after just one race”, stated Gappens. “RallyCross is a combination of drag racing, road course challenges and jumps that you might think belong under a circus tent. I’m certain this will be a major hit for New England race fans.”
