Building on the success of two previous American-Canadian Tour Invitational races, officials of New Hampshire Motor Speedway and the ACT announced the addition of a second late model race next season at the largest sports and entertainment facility in New England.

The new ACT event will be part of the IZOD IndyCar Series weekend on Aug. 12-14 at “The Magic Mile.” NASCAR’s Whelen Modified Tour will join the ACT Late Models on Saturday during this all-star weekend.

“The past two years, the American-Canadian Tour Invitational has provided entertaining and exciting racing for our fans,” said Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and general manager of New Hampshire Motor Speedway. “This premier short-track touring series helped grow our annual September NASCAR Saturday into an exciting tripleheader.

“When we added the IZOD IndyCar Series to our 2011 schedule, I wanted to make Saturday a short-track showdown that showcases short-track stars from around the Northeast,” Gappens added. “The format and number of teams we expect to be at NHMS for the Aug. 12-14 weekend is unprecedented. It should be very exciting for our fans and for the teams of the ACT.”

The ACT Late Model and NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races will be run on Saturday, Aug. 13. The day’s schedule also includes IZOD IndyCar Series practice and qualifying along with practice and qualifying for the Firestone Indy Lights Series

According to series officials, the ACT race will be open to all ACT affiliate track late model teams that are: ACT legal; in the top 15 in weekly points; enter the event timely; and receive approval from their local track and from ACT. Additional teams from both touring series of the American- Canadian Tour in the U.S. and Quebec will be eligible to enter and go through the approval process. Each of the touring divisions will receive points toward the 2011 championships.

“Obviously, we are very excited about this announcement for ACT Late Model teams from throughout the region. This will certainly be different than this coming year’s ACT Invitational race on Sept. 24,” said Tom Curley, president of the American-Canadian Tour. “After a couple years of watching how exciting and respectful the late model teams have been at New Hampshire, we wanted to give more late model teams an opportunity to race there. Being at Loudon over the IndyCar weekend will be a dream come true for many of these drivers. We expect to have as many as 100 teams attempting to qualify for what will be a very unique short-track race on the superspeedway,”

More details regarding qualifying procedures and purses for the ACT All-Star event at NHMS are expected in the coming months.
