With one of the two largest sporting events in New England providing the opportunity, more than $142,500 was raised during LENOX Industrial Tools 301 Week for the New Hampshire Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities (SCC).
The money, along with additional fund raisers throughout the remainder of the year, will be distributed at the end of the year to local children-related charities.
A total of five major events were conducted during race week activities, including the Malco Distributors of New England "One for the Kids" Golf Tournament presented by F.L. Merrill Construction, the annual SCC Track Walk, the “Ride of a Lifetime” driver parade lap prior to the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 NASCAR event, and hosting the annual Governor’s Breakfast to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Dartmouth (CHAD) and David’s House.
"What a wonderful kickoff to our inaugural year of the Speedway Children’s Charities here in New Hampshire," said Jerry Gappens, president of the New Hampshire Chapter of SCC and executive vice president and general manager of New Hampshire Motor Speedway. "Because of the tremendous efforts of many volunteers and the generous support of these events by corporate partners and the fans, we’re off to a great start in making a positive impact in the lives of so many children right here in our region."
During the upcoming SYLVANIA 300 NASCAR weekend in September, Speedway Children’s Charities is planning to host the SYLVANIA 20th Anniversary Celebration Lobster Bake, Friday night, September 17, featuring NASCAR personalities in a question and answer "Bench Racing" format. Additional events planned include a Driver Memorabilia Auction on Saturday, September 18. Fans will also have another chance to bid on a lap around the speedway with their favorite NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver through the “Ride of a Lifetime” Pre-Race Parade Lap Auction.
"The Magic Mile" Chapter accepts grant applications on an annual basis from qualified non-profit organizations. The grant applications are available at www.speedwaycharities.org under the NHMS tab. Applications are due by August 31.

The mission of Speedway Children’s Charities remains true to the ideals it was founded upon in 1982: to care for children in educational, financial, social and medical need in order to help them lead productive lives. SCC provides funding for hundreds of non-profit organizations throughout the nation that meet the direct needs of children. Their vision is that every child has the same opportunities no matter what obstacle they are facing.
