ON A NIGHT RACE AT NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY …

"I think night racing is fun and I think it has something to do with what fans do during day. There's a different energy. I'd love to have one here."

ON FLAT TRACKS BEING REBUILT, ADDING BANKING …

"Homestead-Miami Speedway was a no-brainer. I actually thought at (Las Vegas Motor Speedway) they would screw it up. But they've gotten smarter over the years and Vegas is a lot better than it used to be. Sometimes they have to bank them or they'll come apart. All in all, the newer fixed racetracks are better, but no matter what it's our job as a driver to adapt to it. I have had more success on flat tracks. I really enjoy coming to this racetrack, it's fun … and the food's better up here, too. It's fun to come up here and it's the right size racetrack for our race cars."

ON WHAT HE'S MOST PROUD OF OVER HIS RACING CAREER …

"I do put the Southern 500 ahead of every other race, but I wouldn't trade my win at Martinsville for Daytona 500. That's not to say I don't want to win the 500, but every race has its own story and is special. But I think that's a question for later in life. The last few years have sucked and in our sport you're judged on what you're doing today. I want to focus on getting back to running well, and I'm way more focused on that than on what I've done in the past. One day I'll have a better understanding, but right now it's embarrassing to go to Charlotte to have to run the hooligan race to get into the All-Star Race. It's embarrassing to be 20th in points. I'm focused on getting back to the Chase."

BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION ABOUT NASCAR SPRINT CUP DRIVERS …

"You're fortunate to get paid, but we'd still be doing it if no one was paying you. that's a big misconception, I'll tell you right now. If he (Bowyer) didn't make it at the Cup level he'd still be racing at the dirt level - I'm the same way. Just because you don't get paid for it doesn't mean it's not your passionate, it means you're lucky."

ON A NIGHT RACE AT NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY …

"I love night racing. I hate getting up early, so I think it would be fun here."

ON THE SPEED OF THE NEW GEN-6 CAR (IN GENERAL) …

"They're faster because they're setting track records. There's better grip, a lower center of gravity and those are the key ingredients to speeding up these race cars. I came here with a totally different setup than last year - even though we ran really well (in 2012) - we had to completely start over from scratch. I love what the Gen-6 has done for our sport. It's delivering what we thought we hoped it would and creating much-needed excitement in our sport."

ON HIS CURRENT FOCUS …

"Making the Chase and running well. I'm focused on hitting my stride at right time. You won't have these opportunities your whole career. There's a lot of variables change and right now I'm with a good group, and I have as good a shot as I've ever had to win a championship and I'm ready."

BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION ABOUT NASCAR SPRINT CUP DRIVERS …

"I think the sport does a great job of exposure. Those opportunities we have for interviews (on television), you can't hide (who you really are) for long, but that's what I love about our sport. It's so fun to interact with fans and that's what separates us from other sports is our closeness with our fans."
