Ron Hornaday, Jr. continued his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series record winning streak this weekend with a fifth consecutive win Saturday in Nashville.
No one in the 15-year history of the Truck Series had ever visited victory lane five straight times. The win also ties Hornaday with Richard Petty and Bobby Allison for the second-longest winning streak in NASCAR history. Petty holds the longest streak as well, with 10 consecutive Cup Series victories in 1967.
Regardless of how many weeks Hornaday can continue his winning ways, record setting will be on his mind again in September, when Ron comes to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the Heluva Good! 200. As the speedway's only three-time and back-to-back winner in the Camping World Truck Series, Hornaday will look to capture his track-record fourth Truck Series win.
Hornaday became the first repeat winner in the Camping World Truck Series at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 2007, 11 years after winning the inaugural Truck Series race at the speedway in 1996.
Last September, Hornaday earned his third victory at the speedway, along with the distinction of being the first back-to-back Truck Series race winner at the track.
Winning in New Hampshire has also been important to Hornaday's success. In two of the three seasons he's won in New Hampshire, Hornaday has gone on to win the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship. In his career, Hornaday has four championships and 44 victories.
"New Hampshire Motor Speedway has been a very good track for the No. 33 team for the past few years," said Hornaday. "It's pretty cool that I am the only three time winner [in the Truck Series] at that track. There are a lot of other drivers who have had a lot of success there, my boss [Kevin Harvick] being one of them. I don't know if we can make it three in a row, but we will sure try."
It's that attitude that's kept Hornaday from slowing down. The winningest driver in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series history, Hornaday has visited victory lane five times in 2009, including a win on his birthday at the Milwaukee Mile on June 20. Since then, Hornaday has done nothing but win. He is currently the Series points leader.
