Patrick Carpentier will start from the pole for Sunday's LENOX Industrial Tools 301.
Carpentier beat out Bobby Labonte, who has taken the pole twice at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and Kevin Harvick, who has accumulated four poles at Loudon in his career. With his qualifying effort, Carpentier became the first Reybestos Rookie of the Year candidate to take a pole this season.
During a press conference after capturing the Heluva Good!® Pole Award, Carpentier seemed more surprised than anyone at his success on the 1.058 mile oval saying, "If you had told me that I would have struggled on a road course last week and get the pole this week, I would have said you were crazy."
The one time open-wheel star has an average starting position of 27.9, and his prior best effort on qualifying day was 4th in May at Richmond.
Rounding out the top-five starting positions are Scott Riggs, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
