Each Monday we take a look back at the top performers from around the region in the week that was.

Kind of light this weekend on touring series racing, but some of the names familiar to fans in this region found reason to spread their wings a bit. Of course, so much of it was about getting ready for this coming week, with major weekend No. 2 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on the docket.

Without further ado, here's this week's podium finish:

1. Ted Christopher, Plainville, Conn.

He's got a grandstand named after him and 113 career victories at Stafford Motor Speedway, so it was no surprise to see Christopher in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Victory Lane last Friday night at the track.

Christopher took the lead following one of only two late-race restarts and drove off to his third Tour win of the season.

2. Wayne Helliwell Jr., Dover, N.H.

After struggling to sort out his Late Model during a test at New Hampshire early last week, Helliwell made an unexpected trip to Waterford Speedbowl in Connecticut and won the special 50-lap Late Model event there. It was the first career Waterford win for the reigning NASCAR Whelen All-American Series New Hampshire state champion.

3. Max Gresham, Griffin, Ga.

Gresham, the current NASCAR K&N Pro Series East point leader and winner of last month's New England 125 at NHMS, won the pole for the ARCA 125 at Pocono Raceway and finished sixth. It was Gresham's debut on the 2.5-mile speedway in a Venturini Motorsports car.

Honorable Mention

Keith Rocco of Wallingford, Conn., earned his 30th career SK Modified victory at Stafford on Friday night, holding on to a sliding race car off the final corner of the 40-lap race. Earlier in the day, Rocco earned the top spot in the monthly NASCAR Hunter Index as the top short-tracker in the nation for July... Mike Stefanik of Coventry, R.I., posted his best Whelen Modified Tour finish of the season with a second at Stafford Motor Speedway, just two days before an announcement that he will compete on the ACT Late Model Tour at New Hampshire this weekend... Mike Holdridge of Madison, Conn., earned his first career win in the Valenti Modified Racing Series at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Saturday night... David Oliver of Standish, Maine, won the 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Pro Series feature at Beech Ridge... Jeff White of Winthrop, Maine, returned to Late Model competition at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday and won the 40-lap feature... Ryan Preece of Berlin, Conn., took the checkered flag in the SK Modified ranks at Thompson International Speedway on Thursday.
