PODIUM FINISH: Week Ending July 31

Tuesday, August 2, 2011

Each week, we take a look back at the top performers from the week that was.

While yours truly may have been on vacation, racers in the northeast didn't afford themselves the same luxury. With that being said, touring racing kicked back into gear after most of July was dedicated to bigger events and open shows.

Without further ado, off we go:

1. JEFF TAYLOR, Farmington, Maine

The noted car builder at Distance Racing in Fairfield won his first career ACT Late Model Tour race Saturday at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Talor held off repeated strong challenges from Wayne Helliwell Jr. to collect the win in the Casco Bay Ford 150.

Better yet, the victory came less than a week after the multi-time Oxford Plains Speedway champion just missed out on winning the Oxford 250.

2. JUSTIN BONSIGNORE, Holtsville, N.Y.

The 2010 Rookie of the Year won his first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at his home track of Riverhead Raceway – where he's also competing weekly in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. Bonsignore started outside pole and led 158 laps in the Lighthouse Mission 200.

3. JOEY DOIRON, Berwick, Maine

The 19-year-old 2010 PASS North Series Rookie of the Year, won the 40-lap Whelen All-American Series feature in Beech Ridge Motor Speedway's Pro Series. It was Doiron's first career Super Late Model win and first win of any kind since a Sport Series victory at the track in 2007.

Honorable Mention

Matt White of Northfield, Vt., won the 50-lap Late Model feature at Thunder Road on Thursday night... New Hampshire's Oren Remick took the Late Model checkers at White Mountain Motorsports Park on Saturday... Points leader David Folsom of Skowhegan won the 35-lap Late Model main event at Unity Raceway.
