First of all, let's just start by thanking you for finding The Granite Stripe.

The name? Well, that was actually fairly easy. It pays homage to the unique start-finish line at New Hampshire Motor Speedway – an actual granite stripe embedded in the asphalt.

The content for this blog? Another fairly easy solution.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway, as Fenway Park is to baseball or the TD Garden is to hoops and hockey, is a hub. It's the hub of stock car racing in New England and the northeast, and longtime fans and racers know that the track is a lot more than just a couple of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races each season.

NHMS is a true “Field of Dreams,” Bob Bahre's vision erected from a rundown road racing course more than two decades ago. From virtually nothing came a place that New Englanders wanted to be – where racers would do whatever it took to make one of those old 46-car Busch North Series fields or where fans would scrape every penny, pack the family into the mini-van and make the trek just to see Tour Modifieds bump-draft one another for 100 laps.

Today, New Hampshire hasn't forgotten its roots in the local northeast racing scene. If anything, it's expanded them. Just last year alone, the ACT Late Model Tour and NELCAR Legends joined the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour as part of Sprint Cup Series weekends at the track. In 2011, a third Whelen Modified Tour race and a second ACT event – a real, honest-to-goodness points race – have been added to an already busy schedule.

The Granite Stripe is here to cover all of those series and tours that make the northeast short-track scene special. It's here to serve the fans with coverage of series whose coverage is otherwise disappearing. It's here to provide the stories, the analysis, the commentary, the photos and the videos that bring you to the tracks across New England where the K&N Pro Series, the Whelen Modified Tour, the ACT Tour, SK Modifieds and Late Models race every week.

And it's here, most importantly, to see those drivers from those tours, tracks and series straight across The Granite Stripe. We'll even say 'Hi' from Victory Lane.

Make sure you visit often, enter the discussion by leaving comments and tell your friends about us. Then come see us when our short track starts compete on New England's biggest racing stage.
