When Junior Wins, So Do His Fans
Dale Earnhardt Jr. was no stranger to victory lane. After all, he’d been 18 times before. But that 18th win came four years ago – June 15, 2008 to be exact, and that’s why finally getting No. 19 this past Sunday victory at Michigan International Speedway was so special to him.
So, to celebrate Junior’s Father’s Day victory in the Quicken Loans 400, New Hampshire Motor Speedway has put together a special ticket package to commemorate the win. “The Magic Mile” has released the “Earnhardt Special: 3 for $88 Ticket Package,” which gives fans a significantly discounted rate on grandstand tickets for the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on July 15.
“Whether you have a certain driver that you follow or not, you can’t help but root for a guy like that,” said Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and general manager of New Hampshire Motor Speedway. “Week in and week out he has to answer questions about when he’s going to break that streak. Now that he’s snapped it, he can focus on that next win. I hope it comes right here at ‘The Magic Mile.’ ”
That is a much more real possibility than it might look when quickly glancing over his career statistics at NHMS. Although he’s failed to find victory lane in 25 starts, Junior is no stranger to the front. He has 10 top 10s, six top fives and has led 351 of the 6,882 laps (7 percent) he’s completed at the 1.058-mile oval.
“I like the race track. I always enjoy the racing in New Hampshire. I’ve always had some pretty good cars (there) and ran well in a lot of the races I’ve run (there),” said Junior. “It is really challenging to pass, but it is fun.”
