Volunteers Make July Weekend a Winner
Kasey Kahne may have crossed the Granite Stripe as the victor of the LENOX Industrial Tools 301, but it’s a collection of local non-profit organizations that were the real winners following the first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
More than 60 organizations were represented at the speedway between July 12-15, and thanks to their hard work and dedication, they were able to generate over $170,000 in revenue.
“The Magic Mile” leans on teams of eager fundraising groups to assist with each major event weekend, including helping with parking, cleaning, ushering and much more. In return, NHMS donates money to each group that goes toward the non-profit organization their representing. Checks ranged from a couple hundred dollars to over $8,000 for each group.
“There’s no doubt that their commitment provides not only a tremendous service to us here at the speedway, but to every race fan that walks through our gates,” said Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and general manager of the speedway. “This is the largest sporting event in New England, but it doesn’t happen without the support of our volunteers.”
With another major event scheduled for September – the SYLVANIA 300 NASCAR weekend – an estimated sum of over $400,000 will be generated for various organizations throughout New England.

The LENOX Industrial Tools 301 NASCAR weekend was also a big weekend for the N.H. Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities. Thanks to such events as the Laps for Charity, Dinner with Tony (Stewart), the Governor’s Breakfast and the Red Bucket Brigade, the SCC raised over $107,000 for local children’s charities and groups.
