Buffington Still the Man To Beat at Loudon
Eastman & Buffington Win on Saturday Night
The Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour rolled through the gates of the largest speedway in New England, the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, to race the 14th event on the calendar. The drivers competing regularly at the track with the Granite State Legends Cars were also present, as the race was considered a "combination" for both series. Another beautiful summer day graced the area, and 13 drivers took to the uniquely shaped quarter-mile for their 25-lap feature event.
The No. 2 of Darren Johnson and the No. 70 of Tylar Braunschweig made up the front row after the random draw. On the first turn of the first lap, a crash involving Johnson and the No. 18t of multi-time NHMS winner Tom Gray brought out the red flag, effectively ending both of their nights. On the restart, Braunschweig took control of the lead, but it was short lived as the No. 23s of Shaun Buffington quickly found his way to the point, a place he is very familiar with at NHMS. The No. 96 of Wyatt Alexander and the No. 38 of Mathew Bourgoine, two of the top points runners in NELCAR, made their way towards the front as well, and battled hard with NHMS regular Taylor Martin in the No. 20.
The rest of the laps were run incident free, as Buffington, one of the winningest legends drivers in New England, cruised to another win at his home track. Alexander matched his career-best legends finish with a second-place effort, and points leader Bourgoine rounded out the podium. Martin posted a fourth-place finish, and Braunschweig brought home fifth.
