Recycled Percussion To Blow Lid Off NHMS
The "World's Fastest Drummer" will perform at the "World's Fastest One-Mile Oval" when New Hampshire native Justin Spencer and Recycled Percussion takes the stage at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Speedway officials announced today that the junk rock band, out of Goffstown, N.H., will headline the pre-race concert for the Camping World RV Sales 301 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on July 13 from 10:45 - 11: 30 a.m.
Recycled Percussion, best known for competing on America's Got Talent in 2009 and currently headlining the Las Vegas Strip at the Quad Resort and Casino, will take the stage prior to driver introductions.
"Two things we love, NASCAR and, more importantly, New Hamsphire," said Spencer, who created the group back in 1995 for Goffstown High School's annual talent show. "We are ready to represent the Granite State as it plays host to the world's greatest drivers."
The band revamped the genre junk rock with inspirations from New York City's street music and other bands like STOMP and the Blue Man Group. Spencer, along with his four band mates; Ryan Vezina, body percussion specialist; Matt Bowman, percussionist and guitar player; and Jason Davies as the D.J., use objects like trash cans, buckets, ladders, power tools, and whatever materials they can get a hold of to create a unique musical phenomenon.
The group is a huge fan of NASCAR, and Spencer is even close friends with retired driver Mark Martin. Known for his intense training and fitness regimen, Martin and Spencer became friends when the two met after one of Martin's races. The two still meet for a grueling workout session once a month, which helps keep Spencer, who is extremely active on-stage, in peak physical fitness.
In 1999, Recycled Percussion claimed the front page of USA Today and was voted the National Act of the Year a record-breaking six times. Since then, the band has performed over 4,000 shows in 15 countries, including performances on Carson Daly, The Today Show, China's Got Talent, The Latin Grammy Awards, The World MMA Awards, and NBA and NFL halftime shows.
In 2010, the group signed a deal to be headliners at the Quad Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip where they currently perform six days a week. As the loudest and most interactive show on the strip, audience members are given a drumstick and a recycled object to be used as an instrument during the show.
