NHMS Releases FANtasy Drive Run-of-Show
You’ve been to the races at NHMS, you’ve seen the cars fly around the track, and you’ve had the urge to jump behind the wheel and follow the pack. On April 7, the FANtasy Drive Open House at NHMS will give you the chance to satisfy that urge.
The third annual FANtasy Drive will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission to the Open House is free and anyone with a ticket to a 2012 NASCAR event at NHMS will be able to turn three laps on “The Magic Mile” behind the NHMS Toyota Camry pace car. An additional three laps may be purchased with a $25 donation to Speedway Children’s Charities. Aside from the driving, the Open House offers VIP access throughout the facility with a day full of activities for attendees.
To view or print a PDF of the FANtasy Drive program, please click here. A map of the facility and event locations is included.
The facility will be open all day with access to the infield, which includes a free photo in Victory Lane. Fans may wander behind the Main Grandstand in the Hospitality Courtyard and take the elevators up to visit Chairman of the Board Bruton Smith’s suite and the NASCAR Race Control booth. Longtime NASCAR commentator Dick Berggren will also have a historic infield display to promote fundraising for the new Northeast Motorsports Museum to be built on site at NHMS.
The schedule of events is as follows:
(We should provide the obligatory note that the schedule is always subject to change.)
9:00 a.m. Autocross Demonstration – The Global RallyCross Championship will race at NHMS on July 14, and fans will get their first taste of this emerging form of extreme auto racing.
9:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. Long Tailed Monkeys Concert – This teenage band from Andover, N.H. is one of the state’s great young talents. Thirty-five years ago a Sunapee High School teacher told a similar type of student he was wasting his time playing music. That student was Steven Tyler and his band, Aerosmith, still rocks the world today, so be sure to check out this young N.H. band!
10:00 a.m. Speedway Star Contest – Speaking of Steven Tyler, we’ll have our own version of American Idol. Fifteen contestants will sing the National Anthem for the chance to return and perform in front of the crowds of NASCAR’s Whelen Modified Tour on July 14 or Sept. 22. Judges include NHMS’ Jerry Gappens, NASCAR on FOX’s Dick Berggren, WMUR’s Jennifer Vaughn and a regional executive from RCA Records Nashville. Steven Tyler won’t be there, unfortunately.
11:00 a.m. Milo’s Egg Hunt – This one’s for the kids. Milo and the staff will spend a few hours scattering plastic eggs, so that children ages 11-and-under can race to pick them up in far less time. Be sure to arrive by 11 a.m., because the eggs will likely all be collected by around 11:01.
12:00 p.m. Milo’s Birthday Party – Several local mascots will visit to help celebrate Milo’s third birthday party by competing in a series of games. Children are encouraged to take part and help their favorite mascots win games like Red Flag/Green Flag (get it!?), the limbo and a big soccer match.
1:30 p.m. Driver Autograph Session – Many local drivers will be in attendance during the day to show off their race cars. ACT Invitational winner Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. (2010) and All Star Challenge winner Brian Hoar (2011) have confirmed an appearance, along with fellow ACT driver Wayne Helliwell, Jr.
2:00 p.m. Ryan Brooks Kelly Concert – This local talent bills himself as “a little bit of Nashville with a touch of Texas blues.” Translation? He’s good, he’s very good; you won’t want to miss this show in the infield.
3:00 p.m. Drifting Demonstration – You know those kids in high school that would go find abandon parking lots and do donuts? They’re all grown up now! The drifters visit NHMS on a regular basis to tear up a parking lot or two and will be showing off their skills at FANtasy Drive.
We’ll also have a few special events that you can find out about on our social media. - Our Twitter followers can join us (and hopefully a few special guests) for the “Tweet Up” that’s quickly turning into a NASCAR tradition. Follow us on Twitter @NHMS to learn more.
- Players in the “Fans of NHMS” Yahoo Fantasy Auto Racing group will also have the chance to get a Fantasy NASCAR seminar from the one and only Dick Berggren (that guy’s going to be everywhere at this event). Please check the Message Board on our “Fans of NHMS” group to learn more. You may join by clicking here (you’ll need to create a team first, which is totally free and 100% fun).
