Gappens: Beardspiration for Race Season
It started as a “Decem-beard”. Now we are fully into “Janu-hairy” and I am still sporting some serious scruff. Can’t remember how long it’s been since I sported any kind of a beard, but I figured if it’s good enough for Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart or Dale Junior then it’s good enough for me.
Why am I talking about my facial hair? Well, because like a Sprint Cup pit stop, it won’t last long. I’m brainstorming ideas to turn a close shave into some kind of a benefit. Stay tuned, I’ll figure something out. If you have any ideas, send them along.
In the meantime, we have some serious preseason items to cover!
Have you given a close look to the new Gen-6 cars? With the exception of those involved in that wild spinout at the Daytona practices last week, the new race cars for 2013 are looking amazing. I’ve listened in on several calls with drivers and team leaders and Gen-6 is getting rave reviews.
Why? Well, as one designer put it, they put the “stock” back into stock car racing. This is a return to racing’s roots, when a street car was used as a race car.
Gone are the recent days of tandem racing that some liked, but many didn’t … and back are the days of tight pack-racing, where you don’t pick a single dance partner anymore. It should make for fun, new racing on the superspeedways, and it certainly means continued excitement at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
I am looking forward to seeing Gen-6 cars up close, and I get that chance next week at NASCAR’s media tour in Charlotte. There are always surprises at this event, and in fact, NHMS has a pretty big announcement that will ensure racing excitement in Loudon for years to come. Watch the news, keep an eye on Twitter, stay connected to our website; our event is on Tuesday.
And finally, as we celebrate the start of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup season, NHMS is offering a special promotion … special access for an exclusive event in Boston!
Those that purchase season tickets to both NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at the Magic Mile will earn free Loud’N’Proud membership, the speedway’s perks program that gives its members VIP event pricing, discounts on merchandise, first priority notification on special speedway offers and much more.
Furthermore, Loud’N’Proud members will be entered into a chance to celebrate the start of the NASCAR season with an event at F1 Boston, if you purchase by January 25. The party will include go-kart racing, lunch and a viewing of the season-opening Sprint Cup Series race with New Hampshire Motor Speedway officials.
I’ll be there … perhaps with a beard, we’ll see. But I want to see you there, too. So, sign up, get those tickets and let’s go racing.
