Dinner With A Star
In conjunction with New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s race weekend, an evening meal with NASCAR Sprint Cup champion driver Tony Stewart was auctioned off with proceeds going to the N.H. chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities benefitting local kids in need.
The top-two bidders enjoyed a spectacular five-course dinner with lobster tails, filet mignon, fresh asparagus and some very funny and personal stories from Stewart. The top bidders were Francine Slesinski and her mother Jeannine Laroche (left) and (right) Eugene and Eileen Beckman. Also participating was popular local radio personality Greg Kretschmar and FOX-TV announcer Dick Berggren (absent—he took the photo).
While sports fans rarely get closer to the stars than an autograph, these folks spent nearly three hours with their hero sitting at a table for seven. Stewart signed everything his fans brought to the meal and posed for more than a dozen pictures. But the best part was that four fans got the chance to sit right next to Stewart and ask every question that crossed their minds about their hero’s life in big time auto racing. The dinner was held in Bruton Smith’s private suite at the track. Smith is the Chairman and CEO of Speedway Motorsports, which owns NHMS.
Speedway Children’s Charities is also sponsoring the track walk on Saturday night immediately following the NASCAR Nationwide Series race. All the proceeds will go to SCC and an auction in which fans can bid for a chance to make a parade lap around the track before Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.
