Bowyer Makes 200th Cup Start on July 17
Two-time New Hampshire Motor Speedway winner Clint Bowyer will make his 200th Sprint Cup start when NASCAR’s elite series returns to New England next weekend.
Behind the wheel of the No. 07 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, Bowyer got his elusive first NASCAR Sprint Cup win in 2007 when the series raced into “The Magic Mile” for the first race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. He dominated the 300-lap event, leading 222 laps for an easy win.
Last September, Bowyer came back to NHMS in a similar position as he was in 2007, squeezing his way into the last Chase spot. When the checkered flag waved it was Bowyer who conserved enough fuel in the closing laps to cross the Granite Stripe first for his second “Magic Mile” win, surging him from twelfth to second in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
The thrill of Bowyer’s victory didn’t last long. Post-race inspection revealed Bowyer’s car was 60-thousandths of an inch too high for NASCAR standards, resulting in the loss of 150 championship owner and driver points dropping him back to last place in the Chase.
With two NHMS checkered flags Bowyer looks to grab his third during the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 on Sunday, July 17.
“I’m really looking forward to getting the No. 33 Cheerios/Hamburger Helper Chevrolet back out in front of another packed house at ‘The ‘Magic Mile’ next week,” said Bowyer. “We have showed in the past how strong these RCR Chevrolets are up there and it couldn’t come at a better time on the schedule as we need a strong run to enhance our chances of qualifying for this year’s Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup,” the Emporia, Kan., native added.
The LENOX Industrial Tools 301 is just days away. This action-packed NASCAR weekend also features the NASCAR Nationwide Series New England 200, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East New England 125 and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour F.W. Webb 100.
