Matt Kenseth to Appear at WOKQ FanFest
Matt Kenseth might be leaving for a new team at the end of this season, but on Sept. 20 the Roush Fenway Racing driver will spend some quality time with fans that are all too familiar with Fenway Park and the Boston Red Sox. Speedway officials announced this morning that Kenseth, who enters NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup championship as the No. 7 seed, will visit with fans at the annual WOKQ FanFest.
Kenseth, who is leaving Roush Fenway for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2013, will answer questions from Mark and 2K of WOKQ’s “Morning Waking Crew” and will even sign autographs for a few lucky fans. During the day, a limited number of wristbands will be available to fans, allowing them access to the autograph session in the Broadway Midway.
Admission to all events, including FanFest, on Sept. 20, is completely free of charge.
“I grew up in the Midwest, but the Northeast definitely has a lot of passionate fans,” said Kenseth, a native of Cambridge, Wisc. “It’s always great to head up to New Hampshire because there are a lot of die-hard sports fans up in that region, and especially a lot of great fans who support our Roush Fenway Racing teams.”
Kenseth will be the latest in a long line of drivers that have taken part in this unique fan-driven event, including Jeff Burton, Denny Hamlin, Clint Bowyer, Michael Waltrip and July FanFest driver Joey Logano.
FanFest provides fans with a jumpstart to an exciting weekend of NASCAR racing that includes the Whelen Modified Tour F.W. Webb 100, K&N Pro Series East G-Oil 100 and Bond Auto Parts ACT Invitational on Saturday, and the Sprint Cup Series SYLVANIA 300 on Sunday.
Other entertainment scheduled for WOKQ FanFest includes a Balloon Artist, Raffles, Caricatures and Animal Show, as well as surprise appearances from other NASCAR drivers.
Jamie Lee Thurston will put on a free concert slated for 9 p.m. Past concerts to have performed at FanFest include the country music duos Steel Magnolia and Trailer Choir as well as country icons Brett Eldredge and Chuck Wicks.
FanFest begins at 5:30 p.m. and will also include the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Hauler Parade beginning at 6:30 p.m. This exclusive opportunity allows fans to see the colorful rigs that bring their favorite driver’s car to the track for race weekend.
