Loudon Classic Day 3: Front to Back
Motards Wrap Up Classic Weekend
With the largest field of riders in nearly a decade, the 91st annual Loudon Classic motorcycle weekend came to a close on Sunday. More than 60 races were run over the three days at the Magic Mile, including the running of the annual Loudon Classic Middleweight Grand Prix feature event on Saturday, won by Scott Greenwood.
Another plethora races were run on Sunday, highlighted by the 10-lap Motard Cup final.
Trevor Chiappisi of (Deerfield, N.H.) rode from the midway point of Lap 1 all the way to Victory Lane, weaving through the field after starting from the rear and eventually taking the checkers at the Granite Stripe.
"It's actually been a really eventful weekend," said Chiappisi. "From going through two bikes, to not qualifying, to starting from the rear, I went out and put my head down and made it happen."
Matthew Gendron (Durham, Maine) came in second, saying: "I started in the back of the pack because I stalled it on the start and just worked my way through the whole pack. I think I was probably like 10th place on the first lap and just kept picking away and couldn't quite catch up to Trevor."
In third place was Jason Cavanaugh. The native of Hampton, Conn., rode in second for half the race, but couldn't hold off Gendron.
"The race was great; I was definitely in second for about six laps and felt a little tired but I pushed as hard as I could and gave it everything I had," said Cavanaugh. "I'll take third place today."
William Rowe of Brimfield, Mass., picked up the win in the Amateur Motard final.
