Gray Becomes Fourth Road Course Winner
Gray Wins Final NELCAR Race
Tom Gray became the fourth driver to win an Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour race on the New Hampshire Motor Speedway road course in five 2012 races. Meanwhile, his teammate, Shaun Buffington, wrapped up the NHMS Points Championship with a third place finish.
Gray and Buffington battled for the race lead for much of the 12-lap event. However, Evan Beaulieu snuck past Buffington late in the race to claim the second spot and knock the No. 23s to third. It was the seventh time in 12 NHMS races that Beaulieu finished as a bridesmaid to the winner.
Beaulieu did win the opening road course race of the season in April, and Reid Lanpher won on during the Vintage Racing Celebration in May. Buffington then won during the June Loudon Classic and repeated on that win Saturday. Gray took the checkered flag in the final of five Moat Mountain Road Course races with Sunay's win.
Buffington also won three of the five points races on the mini oval as well as both NASCAR weekend exhibitions. He has won both track championships in the two seasons that NELCAR has raced at NHMS, which includes 15 race wins in 22 starts.
