Mistake in Qualifying Costs Blewett Mod Pole
Blewett Wrecks After Qualifying on the Pole
All Jimmy Blewett had to do was coast back around to the finish line, and he'd have been on the pole for Saturday at the Magic Mile. But a patch of dirt wreaked havoc with the Whelen Modified Tour veteran's front right tire, sending Blewett spinning into the Turn 2 wall. That will leave the Howell, N.J., native with a lot of work to do overnight to get his car ready for the Town Fair Tire 100.
"That means I'll be working on it tonight," said Blewett, who will be in the back of the 32-car field on Saturday. "All we can do is get it ready as best we can and try to work our way back to the front."
Ted Christopher will lead the field to green after originally qualifying second behind Blewett. Christopher laid down a lap of 127.885 mph (29.783 seconds) and thought his time would stand up before Blewett's strong run cancelled him out of his first-career pole. Bryon Chew also put down a hot lap, but will start on the outside of Row 1.
"I'd love to be sitting where he is," said Chew, pointing to Blewett at the press conference table. "I hope he's able to get his car fixed, you never want to see that happen to a competitor. I'm nervous, but I'm ready to take the field around. It's going to be a fun race.
Bobby Santos, Eric Goodale, Andy Seuss, Woody Pitkat, Rowan Pennink, Donny Lia and Mike Stefanik make up the top-10 for Saturday's Town Fair Tire 100. The green flag drops at 1:00 p.m.
