Greenwood Wins LRRS; Buffington Back in NELCAR
After several top-three finishes, Scott Greenwood finally broke through for a his first Middleweight Grand Prix win of the season in the Loudon Road Race Series. Eric Wood came home on a borrowed bike for a second place finish and scored enough points to clinch the series title with one race remaining on Oct. 15. Cory Hildebrand, who loaned Wood a back-up bike, closed out the top three for his second podium of the season.
While Wood has the championship locked up with 211 points, Greenwood and Hildebrand are in a close battle for second with Greenwood up 173 points to 170. It's likely whoever finishes better in the final race will take second. Early-season favorite Shane Narbonne has missed the last two races after winning three of the first four. He is still in contention for second with 166 points but could miss the season finale as well due to conflict with the professional American Motorcyclist Association in which he races.
In the Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour, Shaun Buffington reasserted his dominance at NHMS after losing his first 2011 race at "The Magic Mile" two weeks ago. The race featured several cautions, but Buffington never wavered from his spot on the pole.
Evan Beaulieu and Max Zachem each gave Buffington a run on restarts, but could never overtake him. Beaulieu came home in second, while Mathew Bourgoine rounded out the podium in third. Zachem recovered after getting spun out midway through the race to finish a respectable fourth.
The Legends will return to the track as part of NASCAR's SYLVANIA 300 weekend. They will race on the Cup morning of Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. as a pre-race spectacle for fans.
