FANTASY: A Winding Road in Wine Country
Another week, another Hendrick Motorsports win. The team has now won five in a row, including two first-time track wins in the past two weeks (Dale Earnhardrt Jr. at Pocono followed by Jimmie Johnson at Michigan).
No surprise: this week's top fantasy option is yet another offering from the Hendrick stable.
Let's wave the flags on the week in fantasy NASCAR:
Green Flag - Jeff Gordon
It's not coincidence that the current points leader has been a reliable top-10 finisher all season. Gordon has 11 top-10s in 15 races and has finished worse than 15th just once. He grew up about a half-an-hour drive from Sonoma and takes a lot of pride in his home track, where he has five career wins and 17 top-10s in 21 starts.
Caution Flag - Boris Said
As a road-course specialist, Said only races in the Sprint Cup Series twice a season (Sonoma and Watkins Glen). Said has fared ok with five top-10s in 14 Sonoma starts, but he's finished 28th, 29th and 18th in his last three starts at that track. He might be worth considering for the Yahoo! Fantasy Auto Racing C-list, but even that might be optimistic.
Red Flag - Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Junior has never finished in the top-10 in 14 starts at Sonoma and has led laps (nine) in just one race (2004). It's unlikely he'll contend for the win in this one.
